World-famous Argentine tango couple and their family bring Tango Generations to Boulder
Rare opportunity to see Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne at Dairy Center for the Arts Sept. 30
BOULDER, Colo. (September, 2011) —Argentine tango dancers Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne will perform with his son and daughter Federico and Ariadna Naveira, and their partners Silvinia Valz and Fernando Sanchez, in “Tango Generations.” Tango Generations offers Colorado a rare opportunity to see Gustavo and Giselle Anne dance in a knock-your-socks-off tango theater performance that will be held one night only, Friday September 30, at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder.
Ask any experienced dancer of Argentine tango in the world who the most highly respected performing and teaching couple is, and they will most certainly reply, “Gustavo & Giselle.” Gustavo Naveira is referred to as “The Greatest Maestro of Tango in The World” by San Francisco Chronicle writer Terence Clarke, and has a unique voice in describing tango and the upcoming show. Gustavo says, “This performance is unlike most other tango shows, which are often a repeated recreation of the "history of tango" with its famous brothel and hoodlums, or a clichéd representation of the passionate and tragic relationship between men and women. In Tango Generations, the tango appears as a new form of communication, exploring how men and women are actually linked together to music. This allows us infinite exploration, full of action and surprises, in which artistic creativity comes not from "an” author, but is born and manifested in this relationship. Each dance is a unique event, a singular and unrepeatable event, where the "dance embrace" is a metaphor for an emotional and conspiratorial solidarity between man and woman.”
Gustavo continues, “The Argentine Tango has undergone in the last 20 years an unparalleled growth and development of its artistic possibilities. This outrageous choreographic explosion also represents the relief of the inhabitants of Buenos Aires, always immersed in the stress of a conflicted environment, uncertain and often dangerous. The rebirth of the tango in the 90's has also aroused invariably deep generational differences in the conception of the dance,” says Gustavo. "Tango Generations addresses this generational issue in a way that is thought-provoking, sometimes humorous, and intrinsically passionate.”
Tango Generations occurs during Gustavo and Giselle’s Argentine Tango Festival, a ten day offering of seminars, workshops, Milongas (a special type of Argentine social tango dance party), and performances held at various locations in Boulder. The day after Tango Generations, Saturday Oct. 1, Gustavo and Giselle will teach a complementary beginners tango class, 8:15-9 p.m., followed by a Milonga. The evening will be highlighted with an extraordinary performance by the dancers from Tango Generations and friends at about 11 p.m. For more information on the Argentine Tango Festival, click here.
Tickets for Tango Generations are available at the Dairy Center box office at 2590 Walnut Street in Boulder, or online here, or here.
