On November 9th and 10th, 2011, Dr. Temple Grandin met with the Canadian Organisers of the Intrnational Naturally Autistic People Awards and Convention. She was in Abottsford, British Columbia, Canada attending the BCFACC Conference as Guest Speaker. The BCFACC organisers invited the two Canadian recipients for the INAP Awards to attend the conference, to meet with Dr. Grandin and to be presented with their certificates of recognition and achievement, which were also signed by Temple Grandin - who is the official International Ambasador for the INAP Awards and Convention.
This opportunity was a dream for both exceptional young women: Jacynthe Geschke from Maple Rdige, 2011 'Commnity Achievement' recipient and Isabell Doucette from Vancovuer, 2011 'Literary Arts' recipient. In their words 'We dreamed about meeting Dr. Grandin, but never thought it would come true. That it was just a dream!' This is true for many young aspiring autistic people and come true it did.
Most people in the autistic community are unaware of Dr. Grandin's reputation amongst the international farming producers. She is highly respected all over the world and has been instrumental in changing how animals are treated in the industry, particularly in Canada and in the USA. 'Animals in Translation' - a book she wrote about 6 years ago, explains her understanding and insight into the behavior of animals, a remarkable book for those readers interested in learning more about her passion, her career and her contribution to the world.
In the recent year and half Dr.Grandin has been launched on the world's stage, named in Time magazine's 2010 poll as one of the top 100 influential people in the world and the recent HBO movie about her life 'Temple Grandin' won 7 Emmy's in 2010. Thank-you Dr. Grandin for your tireless contribution to society and the global autistic community.
