The Women’s Studies Research Center (WSRC) of Brandeis University will honor the work of Musicologist Judith Tick, with a public talk and an evening Gala Concert.
Women and Music Mix will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Judith Tick’s groundbreaking anthology, Women Making Music: The Western Art Tradition 1150-1950 with events including a 3:30 p.m. public presentation by Judith Tick at the WSRC and a 7:00 p.m. gala concert at Slosberg Recital Hall.

The presentation at 3:30 pm is free of charge, however reservations are essential as seating is limited. Professor Tick (Northeastern University) will speak on the legacy of Women Making Music, and her recent work on Ella Fitzgerald. A prelude of music by composer Vivian Fine and others will precede the presentation and be performed by Emily Corbató, pianist, a Resident Scholar at the WSRC. A reception with jazz (vocalist Claire Dickson, and trio) will follow. Dr. Tick’s presentation takes place at the WSRC, Epstein Building, 515 South St., Brandeis University, Waltham. The evening concert will celebrate historical and contemporary works by women, featuring the music of Maria Teresa Agnesi (mid-18th c.), premieres of Ruth Lomon’s oratorio Rebekah (excerpt) and of Dana Maiben’s song cycle The Green House, songs of Fanny Mendelssohn accompanied on the Brandeis 1827 Viennese fortepiano, and Ruth Crawford Seeger’s searing Violin Sonata of 1926. The works will be performed by some of Boston’s best:

- conductor Jane Ring Frank,
- gambist LauryGutierrez and La Donna Musicale,
- the Mockingbird Trio (Elizabeth Anker, John McDonald, Scott Woolweaver),
- fortepianist Vivian Montgomery,
- violinist Dan Stepner and more.
This triumphant concert will take place at 7:00 p.m., Slosberg Recital Hall, 415 South St., Brandeis University, Waltham. Tickets are $20/$15 for seniors & Brandeis Community. Students will pay $5.
