"To boldly go where no man has gone before" were the words we all would hear at the beginning of the program by the name of 'Star Trek'. It came on the scene in 1966 and it was something the world really had never seen before. It was only on TV for three years in its original run but in reruns you can still see the original series. There would be other series with the Star Trek name. There would be movies that would carry the name. There would come a following where people would come together at Star Trek conventions. These people would at first be thought of as crazies and nuts but would eventually they would be called Trekkies. Captain James Tiberious Kirk aka William Shatner would finally come on the late nite show 'Saturday Night Live' and in a skit would utter the words "Get A Life" to a group of people playing a group of Trekkies. The DVD looks at the phenomenon that had been part of our lives for almost fifty years.

I was five when I was lucky enough to watch my first Star Trek show. They would come on at 10 pm on Friday night and it would be past my bedtime. If I was good at kindergarten I would be allowed to watch the show. If I was bad, off to bed I would go. I can honestly say I have seen every Star Trek episode and every series ever made. I have seen every Star Trek movie ever made. I have never been to a Star Trek convention. Would I consider myself a Trekkie, maybe. 'William Shatner's Get A Life' talks with past performers like Nichelle Nichols, Rene Auberjonois, John Cho, Terry Farrell and Nana Visitor. They talk of their experiences on the series that they were involved.

Eone will bring us the DVD on August 12, 2014. The DVD is great and the sound and visuals are fantastic. Look I can't sit here and say whether the following of Star Trek as it has been over the years is worthy of all this attention. I can say this, an idea created fifty years ago is still coming out with series and movies. I think that says it all. This is a keeper and a must see.
