Will Over Matter debuted with multiple industrial albums in 2009, the best being Might of the Planet Eater. Their industrial is closer to Throbbing Gristle’s caustic nightmares with rock instruments than to any form of “industrial rock.”
The machine gains a voice and begins to come to life on “Might of the Planet Eater” and begins to sort out internal stimuli in “Precautions”. “Read the Signs” has the machine do a bit of dance amid evil vocals and writhing guitar squeals. “Stone Cold Heart” is one of the most disparate and psychotic forms of funk ever spread out over 25 minutes. “Superficial Solutions Collapse” is 6 minutes of a deadly growl and broken rhythm like some of theatrical dance numbers by The Residents. “Hunt Down the Prey” is the machine on…the hunt, and “Bound By the Darkest Glory” is another 20+ minutes of anesthetized industrial chaos; the machine feasting on various flesh out of boredom.
The second disc is marked more by paranoia than evil domination. “Led by Instincts Alone” begins with 2 minutes of nerve tightening organ drones and is followed by 10 minutes of a metallic juggernaut roaming the wasteland in the wake of its destruction. “Line of Evil” consists of atonal guitar effects writhing against each other. “Forever Nameless” almost opens up into a “normal” rock song; any momentum is destroyed with 17 minutes of harsh guitar squeals and pulses in “Pimeyden Ytimesta”. “Tornado of Control” makes a last stitch effort of normalcy stretched out and mangled before 20 minutes of guitar noise and effects of “The Gateway” closes out the nightmare.
