Lois Arquette's daughter, Kaitlyn, was murdered in a drive-by shooting in 1989. Most people will know Lois' work by her pen name "Lois Duncan." She is a young adult novelist who wrote the book that the film "I Know What You Did Last Summer"was based on. She has won many awards and has taught English at many universities.
Kaitlyn's murder was a mystery from beginning to end.
Kate was Lois' youngest child. She was a typical teen who was bright, yet knew little about life and certainly nothing about the world of crime in which she found herself.
After leaving a friend's house, Kaitlyn was shot in the head while driving to her parent's residence. She lingered a while on life support, her family said goodbye and she was taken off the machine. Her organs were donated.
Almost immediately, the police shut the family out. The cops deemed it a random shooting and refused to budge from their stance.
The family took a while before they could start thinking about the how of the murder. They were trying to get through the why.
Lois couldn't get through to the police and when she did, they sold her a bill of goods that she knew was a bunch of bunk. She started her own investigation that would eventually draw in her other children, an investigative reporter and even several psychics.
It took many years with all of the above entities involved, plus the FBI who finally got involved, before there was even a small picture of what happened.
Drugs, auto insurance scams and murder for hire all figured into this true crime story.
This e-book can be purchased on Amazon for $7.59. This is a high price for an e-book, but it certainly is worth the price.
