Ever heard of The Goldbergs? I didn’t. That was until about two weeks ago.
The Goldbergs is a new 30-minute sitcom on ABC. To describe the show, I would have to say that it automatically reminds of the classic TV hit The Wonder Years because the protagonist, Adam, is a young boy, but the narrator is an adult him from the future. Not only that, but it’s period piece. The Goldberg family lives in the 80’s, so there are many cultural references to things such as Reebok Pumps, the movie Say Anything, and the TV Shows Alf and General Hospital. Also, viewers do get to follow his dysfunctional, yet functional, family. Most of all, The Goldbergs is absolutely hilarious. In the first episode that I saw, Adam and his brother, Barry, stumble upon a "scramble channel" and form a sick bond over this new discovery.
I’m going to certify this show by giving it my stamp of approval. It’s definitely a breath of fresh air. I'm glad that many networks are bringing back good TV.
The Goldbergs airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c.
