Whitney Houston: Another Look at the Bodyguard

The untimely death of pop-queen Whitney Houston is causing fans to reunite with her two films The Preacher’s Wife (1996) and The Bodyguard (1992).

The film The Bodyguard was produced by Kevin Costner (also starred in the film) who is refraining from comment on the recent demise of Houston. Gary Kemp (who is really not doing anything in film at this time) and Bill Cobbs (who recently starred in The Muppets 2011) also co-starred in The Bodyguard.

This film has a worldwide gross of $1,834,384 according to boxofficemojo.

The two songs from the romance film “I Have Nothing” and “Run to You” were nominated for an Oscar and four Grammys.

The Preacher’s Wife co-starred Denzel Washington as Dudley and was released in 2007 alongside Whitney Houston who starred as Julia Biggs. This film was nominated for an Academy Award as well as five Image Awards. This film differs from The Bodyguard because it focuses on a religious aspect of the characters. The plot is entertaining, enlightening and not overly spiritual.

Unfortunately Whitney’s acting career did not get the change to blossom. She starred as Fairy Godmother in the 1997 Disney film Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

Whitney Houston stars in an upcoming film named Sparkle alongside Jordin Sparks, Mike Epps, Derek Luke, Carmen Ejogo, Cee-Lo Green with music by Curtis Mayfield and R. Kelly. Be on the look-out for more updates regarding this new film set to be released in August.

Order these films at a local Miami Redbox location.
