Ron Burgundy Blended Scotch Whisky is not merely a successful promotional tie-in with the movie "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" and Will Ferrell's iconic character, Ron Burgundy. It's a quality Scotch, crafted and bottled in Scotland and imported to the United States by Brooklyn-based, Riviera Imports. Riviera CEO Ed Caan chose to competitively price the product at $25 bottle retail. So far, 30 distributors in 24 states have sold 3,000 cases and as far away as Australia; 12,000 cases are on order.
Scotch in many ways is cared for by its legions of fans. Its not something one can come in and treat it as satire or something less than greatness. A really good scotch can go for 2 to $300 a bottle easily, those that create scotch take this very seriously so when a scotch comes out as a promotional tool for a movie, be prepared to get slandered by the Scotch Whisky drinking community. I have spoken to some experts about this scotch and for the most part they hate it, they feel it’s making a mockery of scotch. Although this Ron Burgundy scotch is a promotional tool to promote a movie, I think it’s a great way to bring in new scotch drinkers.
The Ron Burgundy blended Scotch whisky, is 40 percent alcohol-by-volume (abv) it features whiskies from Speyside, Highlands and Islay. The blend is a rich balance of 40% Malt, 60% Heavy Grain and quite sweet with notes of toffee, hints of oak, caramel and fruit, mild heat and a long finish. Is it the best-blended scotch? No not even close, but for its price $25 is it worth the buy? I say yes!
I had the opportunity to drink this whisky and also my father and some of my friends who are not big scotch drinkers but overall they all enjoyed their drinks. I would recommend this scotch if you’re new to it, it’s a great way to get you started on your Scotch whisky journey. Currently its available is 24 states (including New York) and can also be found at caskers.com.
