In 1993, Steve Branch, Christopher Byers, Michael Moore are sexually assaulted and tied up and killed. Their bodies are dumped into a drainage ditch. This small community in Arkansas is mortified. They are shocked that anyone in their community could have done anything remotely as horrible as this. Accusations will fly around.
Three young men, two are teenagers and the other is 18 years of age are accused of the crime. Their names are Damien Wayne Echols , Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley. They are dabblers in the occult. There never would have been any case if it hadn't been for one of the teenagers who was mentally challenged had been led to confess. The police had interrogated the boy from morning to night and he simply gave them what they wanted to hear.
The boys would spend the next 18 years in prison. Their cause was taken up soon after they went to prison. People had doubts whether or not the three were guilty. You see the community wanted someone's head for these crimes. The brutality was more than most could handle.
The police work could have been better. DNA testing would be better used later in time. Stars and locals would carry the banner of freedom for the West Memphis Three as they would later be called. People would have marches for the cause. Any money making event that would help with the appeals were held. Three other documentaries would be produced by HBO. This would make it the fourth.
Director Amy Berg will tell the tale of how Justice failed in the Arkansas south. It shows how the people would fight for the West Memphis Three. It shows the final outcome of the story. It shows how humanity failed its own. You see three young boys lost their lives physically but three other boys simply lost their lives. Enjoy this Documentary on a travesty of justice.
