Set in Southern California, a father moves his young family to the countryside to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo. (IMDb)
In this inspiring true story, dad Benjamin Mee (Damon) moves his family to the countryside in search of a new beginning after the death of his wife (spoiler). With his two kids in tow, Moore moves to a rundown zoo that has little staff and even less money put into it.
Often times, movies based on true stories can be overdone with emotions. However, in this one, director Cameron Crowe had it spot on. With hilariously quotable lines, a great cast, and quite possibly the cutest little girl there ever was playing Rosie Mee, We Bought a Zoo is one for the books.
Matt Damon's performance of the adventurous yet grief-stricken Benjamin Moore is great. While it's no Saving Private Ryan or Good Will Hunting, We Bought a Zoo brings out the lovable side of Damon his fans and viewers like to see.
Scarlett Johansson plays a tough cookie (per the usual) with her portrayal of zookeeper Kelly Foster. She's adorable and spirited as she fights for the zoo and keeps up hope in Benjamin when the other zookeepers lose it.
The movie introduces little miss Maggie Jones in one of her first big roles. She also played in Footloose (2011) and a couple of tv movies, but here she blossoms into a beautiful young actress. She will keep you giggling and smiling with her charming and bubbly personality.
Whether it's family night, date night, or just you at home, pick this one up at the video store. And maybe a box of animal crackers, too!
