We Are The In Crowd released their new single "Attention" late last night for our East Coasters out here. The song holds true to most of the classic WATIC sounds that fans have come to know and love, which is the only reason it didn't grab the spot for a 5-star rating.
The biggest fault in the song is that it isn't very experimental, or dangerous. It's your classic, run of the mill single. In no way is that a bad thing, but I for one would like to see the band attempt something a little bit more risky at this point in their career. Playing it safe is a good way to keep your fans happy and stick close to your roots, but there comes a time when even that starts to get stale.
That said, Attention is a great effort from WATIC. It provides you with all the elements that a good single should have. A catchy hook line, infectious melody and rhythm progressions that are clean and sharp on their edge with distortion. Of course we would be remiss if we didn't mention the dueling vocals, and complex drum fills that keep the song on your toes and wanting more.
We Are The In Crowd's latest single "Attention" scores a 4 out of 5 from us for creativity and a destructive pop-punk sound, but not one that is overly outside the box. Definitely a crowd pleaser, but I would really love to see WATIC's latest album include some tracks that are really unlike them completely, like Paramore did with their self-titled record. That's the sort of band they need to transition into to stay relevant in an ever-dying scene.
