This is not your typical zombie film. When you think of the words zombie and romance, it is unlikely they're usually in the same sentence. Warm Bodies takes them and throws them together with that few other zombie adventures have, originality.
Over the past decade, zombie stories have developed a cult following with a wide array of films, video games, and a TV show. However, when you look at your top 25 zombie films, what's the difference among them? Now, an argument could be made for differences in tone, such as a comedy or drama. But when you look at the overall story, every one has an inexplicable event raising the dead who bite the living. They are then either eaten or infected. The only real difference is the group of characters trying to survive.
With that said, one could ask why exactly the zombie genre has so many fans. When it's all the same rehashed idea, how does anything stand out? Enter Warm Bodies. Based on the book of the same name by Isaac Marion, this story follows a zombie that is curious about the world of the living while he eats them. Eventually, he meets Julie and it's love at first sight.
With a quirky sense of humor, this film delivers exactly what it wants; a zombie love story. Along with a heaping dose of something original in the zombie world, this film is something to check out. Watch the trailer and see what you think. It comes to theaters Feb. 1, 2013.
