For years hardcore role playing fans have been itching to see their favorite Warhammer armies come to life in some fashion. In 2010 their dreams looked to finally be coming true with the release of the trailer for Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie, but sadly never was released. Now thanks to Anchor Bay the film has finally made its way to the masses on Blu-Ray and DVD.
Ultramarines follows a squad of Ultramarines that answer a distress call from and Imperial Shrine World that is supposed to have a full company of Imperial Fists stationed there, but is receiving no answer. Now they must investigate to find out what has happened and hope to get out alive in the process. This film is not only worth the wait, but far exceeds what was expected. The makers not only took their time to bring this film to life, they paid close attention to the details delivering a variety of elements from the game. Anyone that has ever played will no doubt be excited as they watch it and see their favorite Ultramarines come to life in all their badass violent glory. They were sure to keep this film simple and interesting, while never forgetting that we want to see these in action and there is plenty of it. The animation is really great, with the exception of a couple moments here and there where it gets a bit sketchy. As if just getting to see the awesome glory of Warhammer comes to life wasn’t enough they even managed to get Terence Stamp and John Hurt to lend their voices to bring characters to life.
Sure there are tons more directions that they could have done which would have been more exciting for the fans, but this is a great start to what will hopefully be more to come. If you have ever played Warhammer and let your imagination run wild now is your chance to see it all finally come to vibrant violent life like never before.
