Zombies are having a bit of a moment. From television shows to t-shirts, video games and even toys they have popped into our cultural view like a tsunami. Zombies used to be just shambling, brain-hungry corpses and now they are, not unlike their portrayal in media, everywhere.
And now we have the first truly big-budget zombie film World War Z, and let me tell you it delivers.
Gerry Lane is an ex-U.N. investigator who gets pulled back in to investigate the outbreak of a zombie virus. He travels the world looking for answers and trying to stop the destruction of humanity.
I just want to say going in, I'm not the biggest zombie fan. While I enjoy the Walking Dead and George Romero's oeuvre I'm still more Werewolf obsessed than Zombie obsessed. But this film was amazing. From the special effects to the acting, to the zombies themselves every facet of this movie is brilliant.
Let's start with Brad Pitt. It would have been easy to make his character the smartest and toughest guy around but that's not what they do. Pitt plays the character as more of an every man doing what he can to stave off an apocalyptic event. He's understated and not a superhero. It makes the film more entertaining in my humble opinion.
And let's talk about the true stars of the film, the zombies. These are some of the most terrifying creatures I have ever seen. They attack with a frenzied viciousness that if you were faced with it in real life you would not know how to react. And they are fast and will leap at you like some sort of vicious animal. For a PG-13 film they are scary.
And the special effects are brilliant as well. From cities on fire to the change from human to zombie this movie looks fantastic.
I can't say enough good things about this movie except that you should watch it. If you're a fan of zombies or just looking for a good scary movie you can't go wrong with this movie. Four Stars.
So check out this movie and always ai for the head.
