Vivaldi ristorante has all the elements necessary to become highly successful: gorgeous location amidst the lush greenery of clearview golf course; an unsurpassed view of the Throgs Neck Bridge and the water beneath, a fabled venue, the old Rudolph Valentino home; and superb gourmet italian and mediterranean food. Yet over the past few years, the restaurant has changed hands and names numerous times.
Vivaldi, with an experienced and highly successful management team gives every indication that this time, they are here to stay!
Vivaldi is accessed from the cross island parkway or clearview expressway and stands out like a jewel amidst the flora and fauna of the clearview golf course. Vivaldi is housed in the old rudolf valentino mansion beautifully renovated and modernized since the great latin screen lover occupied it in the 1920's. The restaurant has two distinct dining rooms housed in a beautiful mansion like structure with both indoor and outdoor seating. The "Valentino" section of the restaurant is dark with rich wood tones, and a large bar, fireplace and tables. The main dining room area is light, bright and open, facing the throgs neck bridge, the water, and the lush greenery of the golf course.
We were invited to dinner at Vivaldi on a weekday night in June. The weather was sensational and as we walked to the entrance, we passed a beautifully dressed wedding party. They were celebrating both in the outdoor dining area and in the large event dining room on the second floor.
We were seated by a window overlooking the outdoor dining and the greenery of the golf course. The elegance of the mansion was impressive and enhanced by the extensive gourmet italian/mediterranean menu and fine service .
We began our meal that evening with two excellent appetizers:
A Jumbo shrimp cocktail beautifully plated and served with a delicious cocktail sauce
Tuna Tartar- Sashimi grade tuna with salt water vinegar, mustard oil and avocado
We next shared a fabulous Caesar Salad- made with Romaine Hears, White Anchovy, Croutons, Shaved Parmesan, and a creamy, parmesan cheese filled dressing.
Our waiter, Mark Anthony, recommended Vivaldi's special Pappardelle Bolognese- made with six hour braise of Pork, Beef, and Veal. A visual and taste treat!
We also enjoyed a large plate of Stuffed Sole made with Crab and Shrimp stuffing, served with roasted potatoes, spinach, and lemon and brown butter. Certainly among the very best we have eaten this year. For side dishes we had asparagus, brussel sprouts, and potato puree.
We loved the ambiance and sophisticated urban elegance of the restaurant and the fine service and attention we received from our waiter and management.
We relaxed, had coffee and then sampled two "off the chain" delicious desserts:
Bombalonis- stuffed with my favorite dessert "Nutella" and rolled in cinnamon sugar served with a mixed berry sauce.
Blueberry Cobbler-Warm fresh blueberry compote, topped with house made cobbler and lemoncello sorbetto.
We left Vivaldi with a very satisfied feeling and an anticipation of a future date when we can return.
Vivaldi is an ideal venue for all occasions, whether a corporate event, holiday party or elegant wedding. Their meticulous attention to detail and spectacular location, combined with their exquisite culinary capabilities, makes each event very special.
Congratulations to The new operator, 123 Restaurant Group owned by George Makkos and Paul Nicaji, the executive chef and wait staff. Thanks to Scott Norris, Vivaldi's banquet sales manager for his invitation and hospitality.
