Vinosia, Taurasi, 2006, DOCG

Taurasi is a red wine based mainly on the Aglianico grape in Avellino in Italy’s Campania region. Awarded DOCG status in 1993, Taurasi must for at least three years with one of those years in oak. While most Taurasi is 100% Aglianico, it can contain up to 15% of Sangiovese, Barbera, and Piedirosso. Due to its elegance, power and structure it is even nicknamed “Barolo of the South.”
A great example of this wine is Vinosia, Taurasi, Campania, IT, 2006 DOCG. It pours a rich opaque purple into the glass. Aromas coming from the glass contain raspberries and blackberries. After a few swirls violets, tobacco and cacao emerge. The first sips reveal ripe berries and a slight earthiness. Cacao and leather lead to lush tannins with a long finish. This wine is 14%abv and the high alcohol can be detected in a warm feeling as the wine goes down the throat. This wine can also age for a few more years and it should soften with time. Any braised meat dish will go great with this wine. Enjoy!
