Vietnamese martial arts film Clash kicks it's way into your home

Most of the big martial arts movies come from China and with the resurgence of Tony Jaa Thailand, but few from Vietnam get recognized. The latest martial arts film from Vietnam is Clash. Will it live up to the usual hype of the martial arts films from the other Asian markets or will it show why there aren’t more out there?

Clash follows a mercenary who must complete a series of crime jobs to win the release of her kidnapped daughter. After hiring a group of mercenaries to help with the jobs, it become evident that one of them does not have the same motivation as she does. As far as story goes, this one is pretty lite, but that comes with the territory with most Asian action films. Usually they are all over the place, but here it stays pretty straight forward and simple without getting over complicated, but managed to still throw in a twist or two. The performances were all decent enough managing to be as effective as they needed to be to make the film work. At first the fight scenes seem a bit weak, but as the film progresses, so does the quality of the fights. There is some great action moments with gun fights and martial arts action that is top notch. While not the greatest fight scenes ever, they still managed to throw in some memorable well-choreographed sequences.

This isn’t the greatest of all martial arts films, but it is a decent edition with a good story and great action. It’s a great addition to the genre and one that is worth watching. If you’re martial arts or just like a good action film, then give Clash a chance.
