Aritst: Verse Simmonds ft. Kelly Rowland
Song: Boo Thang
Boo Thang is the lead single off of recording artist Verse Simmonds upcoming album. Released by Konvict Muzik, Boo Thang has already reached #65 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Although the song was released on June 9, 2011 the official video was released today, October 11, 2011.
Boo Thang deals with the issue of player (Simmonds) getting played by his side chick and realizing that it’s time to settle down with the girl who’s always been there for him (Boo Thang). The video and song are laid back and ended with Kelly Rowland picking up the last verse and chorus. Kelly was a nice surprise and addition to the song but by the time she makes an appearance – is she really needed? Verse addresses Kelly’s vocal addition to the song:
So when she [Rowland] heard it, she was like, 'I really love it.' Two days later, she went in the studio and recorded it. We ain't have to hunt her down, we ain't have to stalk her for it. She really loved it and went in and did her thing on it, and I was happy to get her on there
It would have been nice if Kelly Rowland played “Boo Thing” but I guess that would have been “Dilemma” déjà vu circa 2002.
All in all the song is just OKAY. Hopefully, we’ll hear a lot more from Verse as an R&B artist.
