The Wise and Foolish Builders meet The Three Little Pigs in a hilarious Veggie Parable
Who could take pigs, hot tubs, lattes, crazy sheep and spaghetti and blend them with biblical parables to make a delightful story with strong biblical messages. Big Idea did it in their newest DVD: VeggieTales: The Little House that Stood.
In this VeggieTales DVD, the two stories blend nursery tales and rhymes with some of Jesus’ parables.
“The Little House that Stood” is a twist of the story of The Three Little Pigs and the parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders. It is set in Cabbageville, a little town located next to the Huffinpuff Dam which controls the waters of the Wolf River. Local contractors Larry, Mr. Lunt and Bob are building homes in new subdivisions. When three pigs plan to move to town, they meet with the contractors. Larry lauds the benefits of building with hay and Mr. Lunt expounds the beauty of bricks; both state that their houses go up quickly.
Bob confesses that his house takes longer to build, because he starts by pouring a firm foundation. He explains that he learned how to build from Old Man Zucchini, who gave him a copy of the “Master Builder’s Handbook” and told him that, “God is our firm foundation. If we build our lives on His Word, we’ll stand strong when troubles come along.”
Which contractor will the pigs choose? Who will get the coveted hot tub? And what about those dark storm clouds that are looming on the horizon?
Inspired by the parable of the Good Samaritan and told in classic nursery rhyme, the second story, “The Good Egg of Gooseville” answers the age-old mystery, ‘What made Humpty Dumpty crack?’
Humpty Dumpty (Bob) is mayor of Gooseville, a little town populated by citizens with a long list of complaints and needs. From Jack and Jill, the Three Bears, Old Mother Hubbard, Jack [be] Nimble, Goldilocks, Miss Muffet and Little Bo Peep, Mayor Dumpty is literally driven up the wall with this pickled pack of problems!
He declares, “With all these neighbors in need, I'm better helping just me!” and takes off on a much dreamed-of vacation high atop the Great Wall of Gooseville. Without their mayor, bad things begin a domino-effect in the little town.
What will happen to the townsfolk without Mayor Dumpty? Who is going to fill that swimming pool? And what about that crack that is forming atop the mayor’s head?
Of course, what VeggieTales video would be complete without a Silly Song with Larry? In “Happy Tooth Day” Larry and his veggie friends celebrate the wonder of – you guessed it – teeth!
