Veggie Tales: Little Drummer Boy is a Mix of Humor and Holiday Warmth

Those edible herbaceous are at it again in a new holiday movie that is bound to become an annual tradition, Veggie Tales: The Little Drummer Boy.

Portraying the famous Christmas character is non other than Junior Asparagus. The movie opens up with our little green hero choosing to play his drums rather than hang out and go caroling with his friends. Junior’s stubbornness gets his plans as mixed up as a garden salad. As a result Junior Asparagus gets left behind and has to spend the evening with Pa Grape.

This one-on-one time proves to be a fruitful experience for Junior Asparagus as Pa Grape gets to share the story of the little drummer boy and draw some parallels between Junior Asparagus’s struggle to find his place among his bunch.

As usual with the Veggie Tales series, there is a Christian and moral message weaved in throughout the traditional story. Also mixed in is some humor, and some heavier subjects such as a little boy named Aaron (Junior again) losing his home and is left to find his way with dancing animals in-tow.

My kids really enjoyed the Star Wars parody and the simplicity of this parable. However,  I could have done without the earlier tragedy in the beginning of the film. Don’t kids have enough on their plates?
