A week ago John Alleman collapsed outside of the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas, Nev. A week later he was taken off life support and died. The reason for Mr. Alleman's collapse and eventual death was due to a heart attack. It should also be noted that Mr. Alleman was a regular at the Heart Attack Grill, which is known for serving foods with an extremely high fat content. Many Fort Smith restaurants are shying away from foods with a high fat content and introducing menu items with a lower fat content. One new restaurant is steering clear of fatty foods altogether and offering a menu that offers only healthy fare. That restaurant is Power Salads.
Power Salads is Fort Smith's first vegetarian restaurant. The menu features several salads that can also be served as sandwiches or wraps. Now a power salad is not just a small salad which consists of lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes, with ranch dressing on top. A power salad consists of those ingredients as well as others like avocado, cranberries and even grilled chicken and steak for those wanting extra protein in their lunch. The more popular salads include the Chicken Avocado Salad, the Chicken Greek Salad (this examiner's personal favorite) and the Steak Fiesta Salad. All salads are served with home made bread and a bottle of water.
What sets Power Salads apart from other restaurants is that a bulk of the restaurant's business comes from delivery. Power Salads offers free delivery to any business in Fort Smith and requires a $30 minimum for deliveries in Barling and Van Buren. Of course anyone who wants to sit down with their salad may do so also. Power Salads is located inside Kinkead's Alternative Club which will offer customers the chance to sit down if they choose to do so.
Power Salads is located at 1004 ½ Garrison Avenue Fort Smith, Ark. The restaurant is open for lunch from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The restaurant does offer carryout and dine-in only during Kinkeads' business hours which run from 7 p.m. - 2 a.m. Anyone who would like to place an order can call 479-430-1962, or email their order in.
