Vanishing on 7th street (2010)

You can usually count on a few guarantees when living in any city.  In Baltimore City, you can usually find many crowds and several lights when you’re out at night.  You can even see the Natty Boh man winking at you if you are in the right location.  But an unsettling fear would overtake the bravest of residents if all those crowds and lights disappeared in an instant.  In Vanishing on 7th street, that is exactly what happens.

The film begins by introducing Luke, a TV news anchor who is portrayed through Hayden Christensen.  Luke awakens to the annoying truth that the power was out.  Upon investigating the source of this blackout, he slowly realizes that everyone has vanished and in their place rests a pile of their worn clothes.  Keeping pace with the majority of apocalyptic stories, Luke finds a bar with a running generator, and holds up there with 3 other survivors until they attempt their grand escape.

Written by Anthony Jaswinksi and directed by Brad Anderson, Vanishing on 7th Street is a recycled apocalyptic tale fused with a villain seen in many children’s cartoons.  The atmosphere is light, giving no sense of urgency or fear to the audience.  It has decent acting, which is more than likely a product of the unoriginal, unrealistic storyline.  Weak is the only acceptable word to describe the use of gore, and in its place are innocent piles of clothes left behind by each victim.  With many predictable twists and a lack of the hopeless emotion needed in any apocalyptic story, Vanishing on 7th Street, is a movie most horror fans will ridicule, if not avoid completely.
