While it hasn't reached the front page news, the Black Angus Steakhouse is celebrating more than just the end of the work week. This popular chain of restaurants has actually turned the corner on a half century of selling some of the best and juiciest steaks on the planet.
Vallejo's Black Angus located on Plaza Drive's 'restaurant row' has been serving its brand of turf and surf to the community for over a decade. When we heard about its 50th anniversary we decided to visit this iconic destination and see what vittles are still drawing folks in.
Right off the bat we discovered a big plus. And diners who enjoy conversing while they eat will appreciate it too. Black Angus has two large full-service dining areas: One is a quiet haven where guests can eat at side banquettes or at central floor seating. The second area has a sports bar ambiance with a series of TV screens hung throughout the bar as well as the table dining area. Folks who like a more lively (and louder) atmosphere gravitate here.
The Angus menu features the steak combinations that are the hallmark of their brand. It also shows it is in touch with the national dining preference for smaller plates and grilled options. Such Steakhouse Starters as its Fire-Grilled Fresh Artichokes or Steak Quesadillas are served up in portions just right for 'sharing' - another trend that the restaurant is smartly leveraging.
It's easy to see why Black Angus' free and ample parking lot is often full. Attentive service, generous portions and a menu that aims to please a wide range of palates is hard to beat. Factor in their signature molasses bread - and you have the fixings for not only a great TGIF meal, but a satisfying one any day of the week.
