Director Jacob Vaughan's new horror comedy "Bad Milo!" screened at The Ray Stark Family Theater in the USC School of Cinematic Arts Complex this Tuesday night. The film hit theaters earlier this month. Jacob Vaughan was present for a Q&A after the screening, .
"Bad Milo!" follows Duncan (Ken Marino) as he attempts to stop the monster that lives in his intestines from murdering everyone who have made him mad, even his good wife Sarah (Gillian Jacobs.) That's right! There is a small colon-looking demon living in a man's stomach that bursts out the guy's ass every time it goes on missions to bite off other people's faces.
The director made a good choice to never show Milo, the demon monster living in his intestines, getting in or out of Duncan's butt. It was enough just to see Duncan's painful facial expressions, and that itself made the audience cringe. The film won a lot of laughs from the audience as Duncan went through some very awkward situations (more awkward than a demon in a guy's ass) with his manipulative boss (Patrick Warburton), his mother's new found love Bobbi (Kumail Nanjiani), who was about 10 years younger than Duncan, and a possibly crazy hypnotherapist (Peter Stormare).
During the Q&A session, Jacob mentioned that Milo was actually a puppet. It wasn't CG, animation, or anything that would look "fake." Milo was there in the shots for the actors to talk to, respond to...and fight with. He didn't want Milo to be a tennis ball and ask the actors to "imagine" a gross creature, he wanted Milo to be as real as possible, and he only had to get rid of the puppeteers in the background in post production.
"Bad Milo!" is both scary and hilarious. Watch it if you are ready to laugh your ass off. If you have stomachache after the movie, remember to look behind you for that cute little monster looking to go back "home"!
