As a group fitness instructor, dancer, and wellness educator, I do my best to treat my body well through good nutrition, proper supplementation, and healthy exercise. However, we are all human, and there are inevitably times when we push our bodies past the point of health to the point of... 'questionable.'
This past Fall, I realized that after a Summer's worth of a few extra glasses of wine here, a few late-night bites there, and an August birthday that I decided should be celebrated for the entire month, I had started to become less than the picture of optimal health. I had very low energy, my moods were all over the place, and I was waking up several times during the night. My workouts were less efficient and I struggled to maintain the same "zip" that kept my members coming back to class. I knew it was time to make a change. I had heard about juice cleanses, the "Beyonce cleanse," and many other variations on a theme of liquid diets, but all of this only spoke one word to me: starvation.
I am active 6 days a week, and the idea of sustaining multiple-class days, wellness education seminars, and dance training with juice, no matter how packed with vitamins it may be, just didn't add up. I searched for a different option - something that would gently clean my system out without starving my body and still allow me to maintain my rigorous schedule.
Luckily for me, I came across Urban Detox Club - which offers what I would consider Detox Programs for Real New Yorkers (or human beings, for that matter) - people who are active, running from point A to B to Z on a daily basis and, oh yeah, like to eat food.
The idea of this Detox is to gently remove foods which are common allergens in our diets and support a gentle cleansing process through healthy food replacement options and all-natural supplements. The Club is created by two NYC Certified Holistic Health Coaches (CHHCs), Jen Morris and Rebecca Sadek, who put their lovely heads, training, and education together to create a comprehensive program which is the new (and healthier) trend in cleanses and detoxes - "reinforcing good eating habits through eating," as mentioned by Well+Good NYC.
The beauty of the program is that you can take many of your newly-acquired eating habits with you long after the Detox has ended. There is a wonderful shopping and recipe guide, along with personalized health coaching throughout the 14-day process, so you are never on your own.
My personal experience speaks for itself: sinus issues that I struggle with on a daily basis cleared up; I had more energy than I had had in years; I slept through the night and woke up feeling rested; and I had clients and class members telling me my skin was simply "glowing." Best of all, I never felt starved or desperate for food - all the tools were in place and I even figured out a few fun recipes of my own which I still use today.
I highly recommend Urban Detox Club for any busy individual who is looking to clear the crap out of their system without having to sacrifice their regular life, job, and interests.
