Unique medication timer cap eliminates missed doses

RxTimerCap is one of the best ideas to come along since those plastic day-of-the-week medication containers. This simple-yet-brilliant innovation takes all the guesswork out of taking medications (or giving them to your pets) on a timely basis.

The biggest problem with the day-of-the-week containers is that while they will let you know if you have taken your medication that day, they don’t tell you WHEN you took your medication that day. If you have to take a medication say, every 8 hours, looking into your ‘Monday’ compartment won’t tell you when you took your first dose so now you have no idea when it is time to take the next dose. You have to remember to refill the containers, they look tacky and dated, and if you have several pets (or other family members) on medications, you are going to have a counter full of those ugly plastic containers.

Taking daily maintenance medications (or giving them to your pets) becomes so rote that it is easy to forget if you have given the meds or not. Your pets are not going to tell you whether they've had their antibiotic or their dietary supplements. Other medications are prescribed to be taken ‘as needed’ every few hours with no set schedule, making it even easier to forget when they were last taken….and then what do you do? Your choice is to take the medication and possibly an overdose, or wait until the next dose is due, possibly underdosing, thereby reducing drug effectiveness and negatively impacting one’s health. This is even more dramatic in certain pets; rabbits, for example, metabolize drugs so very rapidly that missing even one dose of any medication can have very negative consequences to their health.

Enter the RxTimerCap (and why didn’t anyone think of this before?). The RxTimerCap is a smart cap with a built-in LCD timer that works like a stopwatch, counting down the minutes and hours since the last dose of medication. There are no alarms to set, nothing to turn on or off, no instructions to read, nothing to program and nothing extra to remember. You receive the caps, place them on your existing medication bottles and they begin to work. That’s it! Every time the container of medication is opened, the smart cap resets itself; when the cap is closed, the cap once again begins counting the minutes and hours.

The caps come in several sizes and thread counts, and come in both child-proof and non-child-proof styles. The cap will count up to 100 hours before going into ‘sleep’ mode to conserve energy; the caps last up to two years. I can read the time on the caps without my glasses on (bonus!!). Early studies have shown that use of the RxTimerCap increased patient compliance with medications over 33%.

These are awesome. You’re going to want these. Want to try them out first for free? One lucky reader will win a set of 2 RxTimerCaps to try out for themselves. If you live in the United States, go to the comments (on this page, below) and tell me the funniest or most unusual name for a pet that you've ever heard. One winner will be drawn on Feb 1, 2013 from all entries received.

The rest of you can go here to order these for yourself.
