Uli Jon Roth At Reggies: Review (Photos)

Uli Jon Roth is best known for being on of the early shredders of Neo-Classical Metal, and as an early member of the Scorpions replacing Michael Schenker as he left to join UFO. To commemorate his 40 years of joining the Scorpions, Roth has gone on a world tour dedicated to the music he played with the Scorpions. Roth’s 2.5 hour+ set was all Scorpions material from the four albums he played on with them; “Fly To The Rainbow,” “In Trance,” “Virgin Killer,” and “Taken Force,” except for a few songs during the encore which were covers. There’s a number of a reasons to see Uli Jon Roth, but for me it is to see his incredible guitar skills and be blown a way the whole show. Sunday night Uli Jon Roth and his band came to Reggies and played a mind blowing set in a front of a sold out crowd. Roth’s band included two guitarists who were phenomenal as well, and a killer band. Not only is Roth one of the greatest guitarists, he is also a great singer. What I like about Reggies is you get to see some of the finest musicians in the world in a nice intimate venue, which also has one of my favorite record stores, Record Breakers. Roth opened with “All Night Long,” and played classics from his tenure with Scorpions such as “Speedy’s Coming,” “Fly To The Rainbow,” “Polar Nights,” and “Dark Lady.” The encore included “All Along The Watchtower,” “If Six Were Nine,” and “Little Wing”

The fans there were true Uli Jon Roth fans, there was no one yelling out songs that he didn’t play on. For the guitarists, there was a special ticket which included The Sky Academy Seminar which was held from 12-4:30 PM. “The aim of Sky Academy is to provide knowledge and inspiration to those who take guitar playing seriously and to help them reach a new plateau. The seminars are designed to open musicians eyes to new possibilities and to trigger an awakening of the students full potential and talent.”
