Twooth Timer

Every parent struggles, at one point or another, when trying to brush his/her toddler’s teeth.  And who knew that you’re supposed to brush your teeth for a whole two minutes – and that those two minutes can often times be the longest two minutes of the day.  Enter Twooth Timer.  My timer arrived in the mail for review and upon opening my three year old instantly was interested in the huge tooth shaped object.

Shaped like a molar, the Twooth Timer is labeled with a 1 and 2.  Instructions are fairly simple:  prepare toothbrush; turn timer clockwise to 2; begin brushing; and stop brushing when bell rings.  Well I’m game and thankfully my three year old daughter was eager to try it out too.  She insisted on twisting the Twooth Timer herself to 2 and stuck her brush in her mouth and started brushing away.  All the while, she was keeping an eye on the timer, anticipating the alarm to announce the end to her brushing.

What did I think?  Well the product was packaged well and was also educational, i.e., eye opening as to just how long two minutes can feel – a short lifetime.  And even though I thought the product was fun to use, I don’t really see using it on a daily basis.  Maybe it’s because my daughter is younger; I think it’s probably better equipped for an older child who brushes by themselves and without assistance – no recommended age was included on the packaging.

Personally, I think I will reserve it for those nights when a meltdown is evident and a distraction is needed.  Until then, I have placed our Twooth Timer on the girl’s bathroom sink and will let them decide if it’s something they will use on a daily basis.  Even better, I trained my husband on the how-to’s of the Timer because let’s be honest, it’s his responsibility for their dental hygiene and nightly brush fests – at least in our house.  He seems dedicated to using the Twooth Timer and my daughter did ask to wind up the huge tooth up again tonight.  So it looks like it’s a hit, for now.
