Move over Angelina Ballerina. If you have a budding ballerina or a little girl that just loves to twirl and wear tutu's, then this book series is just for you both. I was contacted to do a book review on The Sleeping Beauty Ballet by Aleksandra Efimova the President and Founder of Russian Pointe, Inc and now President and Founder of Growing Through Arts(R), Having a four-year old daughter who wears tutu's and twirls around the house daily, I happily agreed to do this review.
Growing Through Arts(R) is a company that Aleksandra founded to help build confidence, creativity, discipline and focus while enhancing the "arts" vocabulary in young children. This enhancement can make a direct impact on the child's own ability to not only appreciate fine arts, but has the child learn everday words, letters and enrichment in a way that is fun and exciting to the child.
What I like about this book series:
- Glossary of terms that is specific to understanding fine arts, such as: What is a composer? A score?
- Teaching points of "themes and values"
- Fostering an open dialogue between parent and child about morals and values
- Early introduction and appreciation for the arts
- The workbook that goes with the series helps encourage and excite the child to learning simple tools from letter recognition to matching the ballerina
Aleksandra does a wonderful job telling the story of Sleeping Beauty in The Sleeping Beauty Ballet book in her own exceptional way. This particular book has an ending that is less less violent ending than the original version. My daughter and I enjoyed the opportunity to talk about the book in helping her understand why people may react the way they do and how we react can have a positive or negative impact on both people. For example, Instead of the villian getting "killed" off by the prince, he instead finds forgiveness and kindness, teaching the child that, "Love and forgiveness have amazing power to change people."
My 4-year old also dove right into the workbook, getting excited when she recognized the different ballerinas, asking questions about why ballerinas have various expressions on their faces when dancing. We used that as an opportunity to talk about what makes us happy, sad, loving and mad. We also practiced the different styles of easy ballet moves such as a plie to help get her moving and a deeper understanding of physical discipline to help promote the physical fitness aspect of the book.
This book deserves a standing ovation. I highly recommend this book as this will make an ideal birthday or holiday gift for any little child. I definitely will be purchasing more as gifts for all of my little girl's friends.
