Starting with Kevin Eastman’s drawing with lots of input by Peter Laird, the first comic book that came out was supposed to be the only comic book. It was in a black and white format and entitled simply “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
Here we are, 30-years later and the biggest hit of this weekend, Aug 10, 2014, is “The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Everything old is new again.
The Turtles, like many great things, came about from some guys fooling around. This documentary came around because filmmaker Randall Lobb brought together many of the people who were instrumental in The Turtles success.
People like Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the original writers. The people responsible for the marketing of the first toys. The doc even gets together some of these people after over 20-years. Producers, directors, even voice talent.
The merchandise from the first action figures, the theater releases of the first movies to the cartoons and games. It’s all here and it’s explained very well.
I was never a TMNT fan and I enjoyed this film. My husband who has had limited exposure to the Turtles of the past, really loved this doc. He didn’t stop talking about it for a very long time. He wants to see the older films ad the animated films. I see some Turtles in my future.
“Turtle Power” will take the long time fan to a place they remember being and would love to be again. It will take new fans to a new place and teach them how they got there.
This documentary is enjoyable and informative. It's the perfect gift for the Turtle fan in your life.
