On Thursday, Oct. 17 the band Turn Me On Dead performed at the Milk Bar on Haight Street in San Francisco. The San Jose band that formed in 2012 plays an eclectic mix of electronic, dance and rock music. Turn Me On Dead is Rick Alexander (vocals), David Ovlite (bass, synths), Johnny Diaz (guitar), and Christian Montiel (drums).
As Turn Me On Dead takes the stage, the small crowd in the bar area of the Milk Bar starts to make its way to the stage area. They start the show with the catchy upbeat song “Lovely Lover”. After a quick introduction from front-man Rick Alexander, Turn Me On Dead play “Young Socialite” from their upcoming yet to be released album. Next up, the band launch into another of their catchy dance songs from their debut EP, this one called “Happi Face”. After “Happi Face”, Turn Me On Dead play the slow moving “All Things Fade”. While performing “All Things Fade”, Rick Alexander’s vocals sound great, floating on top of the consistent rhythm of Christian Montiel’s drums. Moving on through the show, they play “Shake It Up”, the fiercely uptempo dance song. During the performance Alexander dances wildly ending the song with a jump from the stage onto the floor. From the floor he asks the crowd if they would like to dance with him and notes that he will be staying here to perform the next song. That next song is “Crimes”, a captivating synth laden tune that has Alexander stretching his vocal range over it’s heavy dance beat. After finding out they can play one more song, Turn Me On Dead end the set with one of their more rock based songs named “Mirrors”.
Turn Me On Dead play memorable chorus driven dance songs with heavy beats made for moving to. While playing these songs live, front-man Rick Alexander puts his all into it dancing, performing and singing to the crowd as if it is the last show he will ever play. Turn Me On Dead is a band on the rise in the increasingly popular electronic/dance/rock genre in the Bay Area music scene with one EP already out and a LP on the way soon.
