Tucson's new name: “Shoe-Son” : Yeardley Smith Interview

The release of, Marchez Vous, Smith’s new spring shoe line was an event that left people talking and wanting more, more, more! There was Champaign, fruits, orderves, shoes, and a woman whose grace showered the room: Yeardley Smith. But that’s not all; along with Yeardley was a fantastic collection of charming LA men to aid in trying on these wonderfully delightfully stylish, yet unbelievably comfortable shoes. If you were looking for Prince Charming, he was at J. Gilbert Footwear, holding your hand as you slipped your precious foot into each shoe, only to realize that you just found your perfect fit. Literally.

But aside from Prince Charming, delectable orderves, and the elegant environment, stood the lady in charge. Yeardley Smith was attentive to all guests, and shared her passion for shoes with all. Hearing things like:

“God, they’re so comfortable!”

“It’s perfect!”

“They’re fabulous! I love it!”

"They're true to size."

And half a million thumbs up! Smith shined with all the glee and hope of success one could obtain, just another great success for this talented superstar. But the woman behind the shoes was one of the most kind hearted, loving, and passionate people I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with. Yeardley's essence is indeed, true beauty.

Q. Why shoes Yeardley?

A. “I love shoes!" It was after a long day driving home with her Producer, Jay, he asked her, “What are you passionate about?” She thought of her love for shoes, but also of how there needed to be a shoe that was not only breathtakingly beautiful, but also comfortable. Again, and again she wondered why woman had to endure such pain for one night of fun.

Q. Always an interest in Fashion?

A. She loves shoes more than most any other Fashion item, but still hopes to one day release a line of dresses for women. Yeardley is not your “typical celebrity,” as she stated when it came to Fashion on the Red Carpet, she always dresses herself.

Q. Why the name “Marchez Vous”? (This means “The Walk” in French)

A. Well, Yeardley is from Paris, France, but aside from her origin, she wanted a name that “conveyed motion.” “These are shoes that will keep up with you.”

Q. The shape is very interesting. Does it have something to do with the comfort of the shoe or is it just a style?

A. Every piece of the shoe is designed in a stylish manner, but also comfort is a huge part. Particularly, the heel is shaped in such a way that it is to resemble that of a women’s body. It’s beautiful, sexy, and timeless—like a woman. (This fact I found most enjoyable!)

Q. What was the most challenging part of creating these shoes?

A. It was most difficult to create the shoes mechanics. Because the shoe does want to be known for comfort, despite the views of others, but it is also sincerely a stylish comfortable shoe—which is a rarity. When you think of a comfortable shoe, you think of something kind of bulky and out dated, but this shoe begs to differ. Yeardley “test drove” the shoes until they were perfect—as she is a perfectionist. Her focus and devotion to the idea of a comfortable heel would succeed. If it cut into a spot it needed to be fixed, if the “poron foam” flattened after just a few days of wearing the shoes, they needed to be fixed. And so, her and her team would not rest until the colors, shapes, styles, and feel of the shoe(s) was absolutely perfect.

Q. What inspired you to create the shoes?

A. Besides her love for shoes, Yeardley hated the idea of having to endure a night of pain just to look good. Really, she was just “fed-up” with uncomfortable heels. You just get to a point where you think “this is ridiculous.” (I couldn’t agree more!)

Q. What makes the shoes so comfortable?

A. Mainly the memory foam in the shoe, also known as “poron,” is the highest quality of memory foam. Its 99% memory allows the insole (which is the same kind of insole as in a sneaker) to never flatten down as any other regular shoe would. In fact, the foam was crafted by NASA first and it stops friction and chaffing from occuring. The shape is made to not cut into any angles of the foot, and amount of poron put into the shoe is a much greater percentage than any heel shoe out on the market.

Yeardley was told that her shoe would “fail,” especially if she was associating her shoe with the word “comfort,” but they were all wrong. A great deal of the shoes have already sold; I witnessed woman after woman purchase the shoes with joy and an underlying knowledge of knowing that their next night out wouldn’t be a painful one that they’d have to endure.

Looking for more? There’s always more! Yeardley has more Spring shoes to release in the Fall around August. So, if you’re looking for a PERFECT going out shoe that’s playful and sohciated (do I dare say COMFORTABLE) than Yeardley’s line of Marchez Vous is what you need to get. Check out J. Gilbert Footwear for your pair of shoes!

After trying these shoes on myself, I must say, I’ve never in my whole life of shoe lovin' (and that’s a tremendous amount of shoe lovin') have I ever tried on such a comfortable, yet flatering heel. I even witnessed a woman with arthritis in her foot purchase these shoes. These heel's REALLY can be worn ALL DAY! Don’t believe me? Try them on for yourself—you will be delightfully shocked and ready to run! (I was out in front of the store doing lunges in them!)

“If you have passion and integrity, success will follow.” ~Yeardley Smith
