"Sun Pavilion" by Triptides is a dreamy Indie Pop album.
Triptides also describe themselves accurately as "psychedelic beach music". Based on these descriptions I'm sure it's easy to imagine their sound, swimming in a sea of reverb... distant jangly guitars and acid rock style vocals holding everything together.
While Triptides does accomplish a really cool sound, there's definitely some room for improvement in the production department. Many may argue that their lo-fi recording techniques (sounds as if it's all recorded live via tape) are all part of their aesthetic, which may be true... but productions that turn into mush when they grow- and max out when their energy expands; can really get tiresomely distracting. That said "Sun Pavillion" still maintains a fun and interesting sound.
Songs like "Overboard" really play up the surf vibe with an opening guitar line that sounds straight out of the West Coast during the 60's.
The track "Need You" provides a surprising shift in mood to melancholy pop... adding a much welcome dynamic to the feel of the overall album.
