The House of Exorcism is the 1974 horror film directed by Mario Bava. A young woman has been possessed by the devil and she tells him the story of Lisa. She goes to a strange mansion where a young man named Maximilian is convinced that she’s the reincarnation of his dead wife, Elena. He gets more unhinged and starts killing people before targeting Lisa. Will he spiral down into madness, taking Lisa with him?

The movie was changed to take advantage of the popularity of The Exorcist and it shows. The hospital scenes feel disjointed from the rest of the movie and could have been cut out. It’s a shame, because the original movie is actually pretty good. We do see Telly Savalas make a reference to his most famous role as the devil is sucking lollipops! This movie is a good example of when executive meddling can actually hurt a movie rather than help it. Honolulu viewers should try to find a copy of the original movie before watching this one.
