Pushover is the 1954 film noir. Cops Rick and Paul are investigating a bank robbery committed by Harry. Paul has to trail his girlfriend, Lona. However, they fall in love with each other and Lona asks Paul to kill Henry for her. He tries to make it look like an accident by helping a fellow cop named Paddy. Paul is able to pull it off, but further complications arise when Paddy refuses to do anything for him and Paul accidently kills him. Will Paul spiral down into self-destruction?
This film noir is a decent movie even though it’s a fairly typical one. The viewer does have to feel sorry for Paddy as not only does he have problems of his own, Paul is using him to do his dirty work. It is a good example of how a decent man can become a criminal through good intentions. Rick and Ann do add a possible contrast with Paul and Lona as they remain relatively innocent compared to the other couple’s descent into criminality. While not original it’s a decent flick. Honolulu film noir fans should watch this movie.
