Cop Hater is the 1958 film based on the Ed McBain book of the same name. Two cops are killed, so police officers Steve Carelli and Mike Maguire have to solve the case. A nosy reporter follows them, hoping to find something juicy. However, Mike is killed. Steve is still able to make some headway into the case when he unintentionally talks to the reporter, Miller. When he realizes he revealed the location of his home, he rushes back, only to find out his girlfriend Teddy was attacked. What happens next will shock him to the core.
The movie is a decent flick with a neat twist. The viewer assumes that the murderer has a grudge against cops or only did it because they got in their way. However, it turns out that it was a cop’s wife that hates police and who arranged it to deflect from the fact that she killed her husband. One of the protagonists is killed halfway, which is unusual for a film like this and wouldn’t be noticed by the audience until the movie Psycho. Still, it’s a pretty good mystery. Honolulu thriller fans should rent this movie.
