Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the movie loosely based on Ian Fleming’s novel. Caractacus Potts is an inventor who can’t seem to build anything right. He has two children: Jeremy and Jemima, who beg him to buy an old car they are fond of. Potts also meets Truly Scrumptious, whose father happens to own the Scrumptious Candy Company. He’s able to get the car, which they name Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. One they while they’re at the beach, Potts tells the tale of the Baron of Vulgaria, who tries to steal the car. How will Potts story end?
The movie is pretty different from the book, but still manages to be entertaining. It helps that Roahl Dahl, a well-known children’s book author, help wrote the screenplay. The Baron of Vulgaria’s plan is hilariously stupid as his kingdom will be destroyed if people can’t have kids. The songs are decent, although the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang song is memorable catchy. Unusually for this type of movie, the adventure story may not have been real. Honolulu film fans should still watch this movie.
