Batman is the 1966 film based on the campy Batman series. The United Underworld has kidnapped commodore Schmidlapp for his dehydrator. The Dynamic Duo are on the case. As they fight the villains, Batman and Robin have to deal with exploding marine life, bomb disposal, and a girlfriend who is actually Catwoman in disguise. The duo find out that the group plans to kidnap the United World council. They fail to stop the crime and must rescue them. Can our heroes beat the villains and save the day?
While not a bad film, it is intensely polarizing for Batman fans. Those who like a darker, grittier Batman will hate this. Fans who are fine a lighter Batman may like it. It can get a little too silly at times, with scenes like an exploding shark and Batman trying to dispose a bomb. However, the plot is pretty good and would have fit in with the Silver Age comics really well. Still, the movie is fine, if a bit campy at times. Honolulu Batman fans should rent it and judge for themselves.
