The location is convenient on Connecticut Avenue above Dupont Circle, and prices resonable for reflexology at Comfy Feet Spa.
Just ignore the basement steps and barebones decor.
This newcomer to Dupont Circle specializes in the ancient Chinese healing therapy called reflexology. With an all-Chinese staff of male and female therapists, it's a no-nonsense place to restore your aching ankles and get a boost of energy.
As in China, the treatment is in an open room with five stations. If you prefer privacy, opt for a full-body massage in one of the treatment rooms behind the reflexology section. Choices include hot stone massage, acupressure, and a standard massage with body oil.
Prices for massage range from $75 for an hour, to $130 for 120 minutes.
But the best value is 50-minutes of foot reflexology for $49.
Peter silently seated me on a couch, removed my socks and soaked my feet in a wooden bucket of warm water. Gently massaging the soles, he worked his way up the stressed muscles of my feet with firm and knowing pressure. Our feet are microcosms of our body, containing thousands of tiny nerves called reflexes, which correspond to every organ and system. Completing my treatment, Peter massaged shoulders and upper body. The result: instant relief.
The lady on the couch next to me snored loudly throughout her treatment. Several times there were interruptions as people arrived for appointments that the receptionist did not comprehend. The experience, however, was relaxing, even if relief is temporary.
Comfy Feet Spa is a welcome addition to the mix of yoga studios, ethnic restaurants, and bookstores at Dupont Circle Metro. Open seven days a week, reservations are accepted or just walk in.
Location: 1629 Connecticut Avenue (lower level).
