Emilia-Romagna may not be know much for its wines, except for Lambrusco, the red sparkling wine that can be either dry or sweet. Emilia-Romagna is famous for other contributions to the culinary world. Its capital is Bologna, pasta Bolognese was born here. Parma is also located there, Parma ham, prosciutto, and Parmesan cheese. Modena is the famous town where Balsamic vinegar is made. Just north of Bologna is Maranello, where Ferraris are made. Emilia-Romagna is also the home of Formula One racing track, Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, in Imola.
Imola is also home to the Tre Monte(three mountains) vineyard. Tre Monte uses sustainable agriculture and also follows biodynamic principals. Tre Monte’s Campo di Mezzo, Sangiovese Superiore, 2011 is bright ruby red. It has aromas of red cherries, raspberries with cedar and leather in the background as well. The palate is filled with tart red cherry, and even red delicious apple. Cigar box and leather fill out the rest of the palate, which is medium, bodied. Smooth tannins and nice acidity lead to a medium finish. Since pasta with rich Bolognese sauce comes from the same region, what better to enjoy with this wine
