One of the things I love about the Tampa Bay Area is that it has a vibrant, independent, and local scene. Sure, you may have to dig a little deeper to find it than you would if you were living in, say, Portland, but it is there, from coffee to craft brews. One such coffee shop that exemplifies this scene is Tre Amici @ The Bunker in Ybor City. It shares the same qualities as some of my other favorite coffee shops in town: it's quirky and artistic, with creative pieces adorning its brick walls, and bookshelves filled with books and boardgames. The vibe is friendly and relaxed.
I ordered a 16-oz sweetened cafe con leche with skim milk (yay me for trying to be *somewhat* healthy!) and the cuban sandwich, because I slept in late, it was almost lunch time, and I was hella hungry. I was pleased with both items. The drink was sweetened just right, with a perfect balance of sweet and coffee, and the cuban sandwich came out piping hot, with a side of plantain chips (yum!). I didn't have to wait long for either order, which makes this a great place to visit on your lunch break if you are in the area. The pricing is about what you'd expect for fast-casual café food: the coffee and sandwich were $4.55 and $8.24, respectfully, before tip.
In addition to food and coffee, Tre Amici also offers beer and wine, and it hosts a singer/songwriter night every Thursday, so there's sure to be something to appeal to all tastes. This is one place I'm glad I visited, and I'm sure I will darken its doors again.
