Examiner.com Slide Show: Tranter's Tasty Treats

On the scenic winding stretch of Rt. 126 between Miamiville and Milford is Tranter's Tasty Treats. If you're taking a backroad route on your daily commute or need a cool break from the bike trail, this quaint corner shop is a perfect stop.

A variety of hand-packed Hershey's ice cream flavors are always available, from traditional standbys including chocolate and vanilla, to cult novelties like Hershey's Moose Tracks flavor.

Cincinnati has an excess of riches when it comes to ice cream, but Tranter's is only one of two tri-state area shops serving Hershey's products. Hershey's ice cream has double the cream content and "is a couple of steps above store-bought ice cream" said Debbie Friend, Tranter's store manager. Friend mentioned that some customers will make a special trip to Tranter's because they are Hershey's fans.

Jerseys and other spirited showings of local school sports teams decorate Tranter's clean interior. Ice cream sundaes creatively combine flavors into a sharable desert with themed names such as Indians, Mustangs, Aviators, etc.

Tranter's also is the retail face for another local business: Cincy Sweets. Pastry chef Liz Field's cookies, pies, cupcakes, and her specialty, cheesecakes are freshly-baked on site, lovely to view and provide another sweet treat option. Her signature white chocolate raspberry cheesecake is always available plus at least one other flavor. Take away orders can be picked up from the store with a 48-hour advance notice. Check out the local couponing sites, such as Groupon and Living Social for Cincy Sweets promotions.

Steve Tranter, a Camp Dennison resident, purchased the vacant commercial property to house his real estate business. His office is in the space that was once the Camp Dennison post office. The adjoining space has housed several food and other businesses during its history. Hershey's provided the business plan; Tranter provided a picturesque and historic location.

Tranter also provided local jobs for eight employees. Manager and house chocolatier Debbie Friend is also an Indian Hill School District bus driver. The Mayberry-ish ambiance of Tranter's was especially evident when someone popped in ... to ask Friend about the first grade pickup time and location!

I highly recommend Tranter's Tasty Treats for quality and uniqueness of product, fun and family-friendly environment, and community focus. The location may seem like a drawback, but it's a pretty drive near the Little Miami River and just a few miles from the I-275 Wards Corner exit. Support this small local business and enjoy!
