Tomb Raider 2013 (Steam)

Tomb Raider is an adventure/RPG hybrid game released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows on March 5th 2013, with an upcoming release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 28th, 2014. The story follows Lara Croft’s beginnings as an adventurer to find the lost kingdom of Yamati, but the ship she’s on gets capsized, separated from her crew, and alone. She now has to fight her way off the island. Is this coming of age game worth looking into, or should you leave it stranded?

Graphics-There are two words that describe the graphics: jaw-dropping!!! Everything about the game looks gorgeous, from the island, to Lara herself, to even the lighting. Everything looks fantastic.

Sound-The ambient sounds really add atmosphere to the game, from crickets chirping to thunderstorms, and makes the game much more alive.

Gameplay-Considering this is a coming of age game, Lara’s skills are very limited at first, but as the player progresses, Lara will learn more skills, and become much deadlier. Experience points are earned rather quickly, from killing enemies with a headshot to scavenging bodies, you’ll gain experience quickly. Campfires make travel a breeze, but the downside is navigation is linear, with limited forks in the road, and some areas require the right skills. The only downside is the loot is called scavenge, and that’s a really weak name, but can be overlooked.

Multiplayer-The idea of having multiplayer in this (or any Tomb Raider) game really was a weird idea.

Concept as a prequel-The idea of making this game a prequel (of sorts) was a smart move, as this will let players get a chance to experience Lara Croft’s journey, and see Lara grow into an independent, strong woman we know her today.

Overall-If this is your first Tomb Raider game, pick this game up. It’s worth every penny spent.

Score: 5/5
