What began with a bang ends with a whimper. Or more precisely, a deus ex machina ending that ultimately renders this six-issue series a trifle — not really worth the time or expense.
While the Chris Sprouse art was (as always) superlative, Peter Hogan’s story failed to deliver the payoff that the story’s premise set-up. It almost feels like Hogan either couldn’t figure a clever way out of his world ending dilemma, or he simply ran out of steam (or time), and just wanted to end it and move on.
Based on this unsatisfying and lazy conclusion, I’ll think twice about diving into the next (that is, if there is one) Tom Strong miniseries.
Two stars, chiefly for the art.
