Time for a quickie: 50/50

In case you have not been made aware, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of those actors who very nearly always make only good choices, and 50/50 is definitely one of them.  I'll avoid the easy pun regarding favorable odds, but you really can't go wrong with this film;  Besides the brilliant lead, supporting actresses Anna Kendrick and Anjelica Huston are perfect as usual, while director Jonathan Levine (who has already proven himself capable of balancing quirk with raw emotion in The Wackness) peppers in Seth Rogen with precision pacing*.

This film reminded me of the extremely re-watchable (500) Days of Summer (also starring JGL); Both approach life's hard truths with humor and utter honesty, accepting the fact that love is wacky, life is fragile, but both are worth the pain and suffering. Every single second your heart keeps beating is a miracle, and this is one of those beautiful, fortunate movies that celebrates and reiterates the magnitude of our silly little lives.
