Thrift Avenue benefits thrifty shoppers and homeless pets. From the street, the shop looks small and unimpressive. Wedged into a busy district at 1078 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia, Thrift Avenue appears drab and dreary. What a surprise for shoppers who stop and visit!

The shop is large, filled with racks and racks of clothing, all neatly hung and sorted by size and style. There are racks for women and men, with a tremendous array of dress, career and casual clothing. Displays of costume jewelry, including some nice statement and multi-chain necklaces, racks upon racks of shoes arranged by size, and attractive arrangements of hats and scarves fill the store. There is a glass case filled with designer handbags from Nine West, Coach, Tignanello, Del Mano, and other top-name brands.

Just when you might be a bit overwhelmed by the size, selection and friendliness of staff, you are shown into two huge adjacent warehouse areas filled with more and more treasures.

Perhaps best of all, donations are tax deductible and all proceeds are used to help animals in distress at PETS, Inc. The Carolinas Humane Society helps to find homes for abandoned and abused pets, provides affordable spay and neuter clinics and low-cost rabies and booster shots for cats and dogs. Nearly 40,000 abandoned, abused and homeless animals have been rescued, treated, and placed in loving homes since PETS, Inc. began.

The kittens pictured were seen at the side of the road with a sign ‘Free Kittens.’ Many hours later, they were still left at the roadside, and their irresponsible owners were nowhere to be seen. The kittens, now called 'Roadside Peaches,' are doing well after a good meal and a bit of loving care. They are about six weeks old and waiting to be adopted by loving owners.

For anyone who has never visited Thrift Avenue, it’s most surely worth visiting and adding to your list of favorite thrift shops. If it were possible to give a thrift shop more than five stars, Thrift Avenue would surely deserve it!

As always, maximize your style and minimize your spending~
