Thoughts On Air plays lo-fi bedroom ambient guitar as good as anyone in the 2000s and 2010s. None of it is awe-inspiring, but is consistently good and utilizes the mercurial ambience of cheap recording equipment better than most budding musicians.
Paleo Sails is slightly off of what Lazy Haze and Vent were in 2011 with the longest pieces getting lost in the cheap recording process. “Yarlo” is a nice eerie ambient track that goes on too long. The best tracks are all 3-4 minutes: “Yarn”, “Lowbrow”, “Little Lull”. They are eclipsed by the weight of the longer tracks.
“Art of Heart”, “A Soft Magic”, and “Red Rouge” have moments of bliss and ecstasy but any of that gets buried in the low production values that are either purposefully destroying itself or may be recorded better for a future release. The lengthy tracks are a cross between the short “clean” tracks and the lowbrow “Yarlo”. Philosophically it is interesting, but realistically the long tracks just drag on for a half hour.
