This month, the movie “Thor: The Dark World” will be released. It is the third film to star Chris Hemsworth as the superhero Thor. If you want to escape the realities of November, consider the “Thor” series.
The first in the series was “Thor,” which was released in 2011. In this movie, Thor, who has been born and raised in Asgard, is set to become the new king, following in the footsteps of his father, Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins). Thor’s brother, Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston), wanted to be king and is not happy it is going to his self-absorbed brother. Because Thor has a tendency to be arrogant, Odin has him sent to earth, where he befriends three scientists: Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman), Darcy Lewis (played by Kat Dennings), and Erik Selvig (played by Stellan Skarsgard). He falls for the beautiful Jane, and as he gets to know her, he learns to be a better person.
“Thor” is not quite the best superhero film, but it is still a lot of fun. It has a lot of strong performances. Chris Hemsworth is excellent in the lead role. Also, Tom Hiddleston makes a great villain as Loki. As Darcy, Kat Dennings is very good. She provides the movie’s comic relief.
This movie looks great. The Asgard sets are very impressive. Also, there are a lot of action scenes. The final battle between Thor and Loki is one of the film's best scenes.
This movie is very enjoyable and is a good choice to watch before the release of “Thor: The Dark World.”
