The horror genre has always produced some really fun films, but when some humor is brought into the mix the risk of losing fun and get just bad. The latest looking to bring the blood and fun together is all Cheerleaders Die, but does it have the spirit to back it up or will it not be worth cheering for?
All Cheerleaders Die follows a rebel girl signs up a group of cheerleaders to help her take down the captain of their high school football team, but a supernatural turn of events thrusts the girls into a different battle. This is one of those films that sports everything you could want in a film like this minus the nudity. For fans already upset by that statement make no mistake there are plenty of scantily clad ladies for your enjoyment. Despite this film being somewhat of a dark comedy, it does in fact sport some pretty dark moments in the story. The initial story isn’t anything new from hundreds of teenage dramas that have come before it, but the twist of witchcraft and bloodletting take it to a whole other fun level. There are some issues with a few of the performances and the insanity of some of the characters, most notably the pure evil of the football player in question that felt a bit far out there, but you just have to let that go to. Once the cheerleaders are unleashed on the school things get pretty fun watching them interact with each other and the other students as well as how their connection affects them all. The biggest issue comes with the glowing crystals that play a major point to the entire film as they come off a bit cheesy and kind of take you out of the horror aspect. This isn’t enough to ruin the film as it does manage to add more insanity to the direction of the story despite not always working.
This film is a lot of fun and while a lot of the characters seem to jump right into the violence and evil with very little reasoning or thought if you just go with it you are likely to have a lot of fun. This is far from a perfect film, but is surely a lot of fun and worth checking out. Not sure if there are going to be more, but with the twist ending and the title card at the end it implies it is possible and welcome fun.
